In the twentieth century wristwatches became a valuable gadget which can be accessible widely after the modern inexpensive production of miniaturized watch mechanisms. Watches have been regarded as a necessity, a trendy accessory in a multiple of designs and colors in order to cover the needs of diverse audiences since their first introduction. Contemporary watches have another important feature that they convey culture apart from displaying time, dates, days, months, and year information.
Today everyone is purchasing time devices considering inexpensive, medium-priced or expensive collectible watches widely. In fact people were carrying pocket watches, which had covers and were placed into a pocket and attached with a light chain from a belt or pin before wristwatches evolved. Considering "old is gold", people are continued to buy pocket watches or wrist watches in jewelry stores years after it was introduced. Even they don’t escape to search for those watches in flee markets because old watches are collectible items. At the end of 19th century Patek Philippe was invented the first wristwatch which was considered to be a woman’s accessory at the time. When Louis Cartier launched one especially for his Brazilian friend, Alberto Santos-Dumont men begun wearing wristwatches, who had trouble checking the time while working on his aircraft invention. Cartier gave the leather-band wristwatch to Dumont and then it never left the latter’s hand. The Parisian male consumer became interested in Cartier’s idea of this new portable time device. In fact after the end of the World Wars, the wristwatch had a great popularity even to day so. In that time military officers kept their wristwatches to introduce themselves as a very useful to their Western culture and to check time. Anyhow this idea of wearing this time accessory became popular because one could frequently and quickly glance the time while wearing a wristwatch in comparison to the older time-consuming version of pocket watch. Today these wristwatches has a complete different story as they are using self-winding, kinetic, electronic, light-powered or thermal power watches to conveniently check time. The way each watch receives the necessary amount of energy in order to continue its operation is the basic differences between these different types of watches. Even to day these wristwatches can display time either in an analog or digital way. How one prefers having time displayed; either with a numbered dial upon with a rotating hour and longer minute rotating hand to operate, or through a digital display that shows time is the difference here has to do in their selecting wristwatches from the stores. Any how the cheaper electronics leads the popularization of digital watches where the newer analog form of watches did not replace the widely used analog watches. Today, people are using both complicated watch types and cheaper electronics watches because a different type of time devices serves different types of people during their everyday tasks.
